Project Description

A REPORT CARD FOR KENTUCKY

CHALLENGE
Every few years, the Kentucky Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers publishes a report to inform citizens and policy makers of the status of the commonwealth’s infrastructure systems. The experts know whether the systems are earning As or Cs or worse. But they were challenged by how to put those results into words and communicate in a single, unified report.

OUR STRATEGY
WordsFresh was asked to direct, interview, write, design and deliver an in-depth report on 10 technical areas. Key steps:

• Interviewing 10 different engineering experts in areas of aviation, bridges, levees and dams, drinking water, energy, roads, hazardous and solid waste, and wastewater
• Researching technical publications for key findings to include in each chapter
• Writing the full report in one consistent voice
• Designing the 77-page report – as well as posters and a brochure to reach various audiences

RESULTS

According to the national ASCE, the Kentucky Report Card is held up as a leading example for other state chapters. The Kentucky Section continues to use the Kentucky Report Card to educate and advocate for infrastructure needs in the state.
